We Are Ready to Go!

May 30, 2015

We have spent the day shopping, loading, packing, rearranging, etc. We put up the storm sails to familiarize the crew with their workings. We added our sun shower, packed our personal gear, stowed the anchor, and a myriad of other things, until we were done. Thanks to my bride, Karin, who cooked some meals for us. My brother, Fred, who has jumped in with both feet to help get Ho'onanea ready. And much thanks to Randy, Cathy and Ellis who also helped in many ways, especially the latter who made an emergency run to West Marine when I found that I purchased the wrong size jack lines. The weather forecast remains very mild. We plan on casting off about 11 tomorrow morning. My next posting will be from some distance off Oahu. Aloha, David

ALMOST READY TO GO

May 28, 2015

Aloha, we are almost ready. Took the big step today of checking out with Customs. We gotta go now! My brother arrived Tuesday, and I have been keeping him busy. Karin has been very busy helping us out, I much appreciate her support. She is a bit nervous about us leaving, which is understandable. The good news is the forecast is for very mild weather when we leave. There will be a bon voyage party at the club for tomorrow night. If any of you see this and can come, come. Final loading of fresh stuff on Saturday, and then we are off. Aloha, David

blog

May 19, 2015

Things are getting close! Less than two weeks and I think we will make it! Today was a big day, my 40th anniversary since I opened my dental office. That's a long time cooped up in a 10x10 room and with the same assistant the whole time! Time to move on. I am here on the boat getting lots of things done and Randy is here servicing the wenches, I mean winches! Finally have the sat phone set up on the boat so this will be another test. Other than a few cosmetic things, mostly all that is left is loading on supplies and provisions. My brother, Fred, will arrive in a week. This will be his first ocean passage so I am sure he is excited as well as a bit anxious, and I know his bride is worried. She will be flying down with Karin and meeting us in Papeete.

So here I am writing this blog from the boat for the first time. Seems like a small step, but trust me, it took many steps to get here. We will be loading Ho'onanea up( water is already lapping above the waterline), testing out the storm sails and watching the weather. Will write again soon! Aloha, David

Getting Ready

May 8, 2015
Tempe, AZ
I finally feel like we are almost ready to go! It is a good thing, because we are in Tempe,AZ, visiting our Son, wife and grandkids. In a few days we head for Michigan, where we will visit our Sisters and Go to my HS 50 yr reunion. I couldn't be doing this if it weren't for the help of my crew Randy Reed, who has been a tremendous help, also Cathy Pratt, DaveyO and Pat H. When I return in a week, there will be a few minor things to deal with, plus provisioning. Ho'onanea is fueled up and loaded up with all the cruising supplies. The water is lapping over the waterline! My brother, Fred, who will be sailing down with Randy and I will be arriving on the 26th. We'll finish a few more projects, primarily provisioning, a few sails to review storm sails, etc., and we hope to leave on the 31st! Aloha!
